Mithrandir + Slack

Connecting Slack gives every AI agent your company uses the decisions, answers and context that live in its channels and threads. Claude, ChatGPT, Copilot and Cursor can cite the exact message. Each person sees only what Slack already shows them: their channels, the public ones, and their own DMs.

What it reads

What Mithrandir reads from Slack

  • Messages in public and private channels, with their threads and replies
  • Direct messages and group DMs
  • Who wrote each message and when
  • Earlier wording of edited messages, kept as history

Access

The access rules that carry over

  • A private channel is seen by its members, and nobody else, whatever their title.
  • A public channel is seen by full members of your workspace. Guests see only what they joined.
  • A DM or group DM is seen only by the people in it. Not an admin, not the person who connected it alone.
  • Leave a channel or have your account deactivated, and its messages stop reaching you.

Setup

Set up in three steps

  1. 1

Your Slack admin approves the Mithrandir app. It reads; it never posts, reacts or joins.

  2. 2

Your channel history comes in from Slack's own export, and new messages follow from then on.

  3. 3

People ask from the agent they already use and get answers from the conversations they are part of.

Examples

What your agents can now answer

  • “Why did we move the launch to next quarter?”
  • “What did the team agree with the customer about the renewal terms?”
  • “Has anyone already solved this onboarding question in a thread?”

Questions

Slack and Mithrandir, answered

Does Mithrandir post anything in Slack?
No. The Slack app reads messages and who can see them. It never posts, edits, reacts or joins a channel.
Are direct messages included?
Yes, and only the people in a DM ever see it. On Enterprise Grid there is nothing for anyone to do. On other plans each person connects their Slack once, with one click, when they get their seat.
Are files, canvases and huddles read?
No. Messages, threads and their authors are read. File contents, reactions, canvases and huddles are not.
